Culinary

Our culinary program:

I lead the Culinary Excursions crew at Maplestone. My crew does a great deal of cooking, making snacks for the school and at times cooking lunch or breakfast. As part of meal planning and cooking we go grocery shopping, discussing budgeting, pricing and comparison of different brands.  We incorporate aspects of math in regards to measurement of ingredients, adjusting recipes for serving sizes, and budgets. We also discuss the science of cooking, touching on aspects such as the difference made by the temperature of butter. My group often assists with whole school cook outs, making food from different parts of the world. Additionally, we try exotic foods, looking at where foods came from and how they are prepared.
