What is beyond?

My crew’s focus revolves around what is “BEYOND”; moving beyond the traditional confinements of a classroom. Whether it is transitioning into a job in the outside world, moving back to a traditional High School, graduating Maplestone and continuing their education elsewhere, or simply graduating and seeing where life takes them, we take school beyond the walls of the classroom. We head into the ‘real' world, beyond our walls into the outside world and into nature. I allow students' thoughts and interests to help focus our activities and instructional path. I might have a day of learning planned but if one of the kids mentions an interest or asks a question, I allow our focus to change and we will then drift off and travel down a different pathway of exploration and education to discover the answers to what the kids’ really want to know.
